Home Guestbook About Passwords

There are many robot programs (sometimes called "spyders") crawling all over the web.  Some are welcome on my site and some are not.  The welcome ones are ones that find information for search engines.  They make it possible for you to search for Amuay, Caripito, etc. on Yahoo or Google and find my web sites.  The bad ones, roam the web looking for e-mail addresses.  E-mail addresses look like "somebody@somewhere.com".  If they find your e-mail address, you may be awarded a bunch of junk e-mail or "spam".

Now, it is far too expensive to have someone sitting at a computer screen searching the web and harvesting e-mail address.  However, spyders can follow link after link visiting thousands of web pages every hour and looking for the tell-tale "@" that tells them they have found an e-mail address.

To protect the privacy of my visitors, I have placed my guest book behind a password.  The password that was displayed to you on the previous page was not even text.  If you try to copy and paste it, you will see that you can't.  It is a picture in a JPEG file.

In short, spyders will not be able to get get into my guest book without human assistance, and they won't get it.  The link to my guest book will look like a dead link to them, and they will just look elsewhere.
